Day 13. Hoi An. 11.11.24

Day 9 of the cycling tour, 50 kms.

'Today visit My Son, the ancient centre of Cham civilization. Transfer out of town to avoid the highway before cycling along country back roads along the Song Tranh River to Mai Son. Take lunch before spending the afternoon visiting the site. Transfer back to Hoi An in the afternoon. Overnight in Hoi An.'

We headed out on the bikes at 8 am this morning. It was a lovely ride in the old town, along the river, through a market, back streets and a few bridge crossings.  We stopped for a few photo opportunities.

Huda is a beer, made from a company who name is a mix of 2 towns Hué and Da Nang.

A few photos from the morning tea stop at about the 20km mark. I decided my butt was too sore from riding so went on the bus for the next 20 kms after mornos.

A couple of photos taken from the bus.

Bob and I were on the bus which arrived before the cyclists so we wandered around taking some photos.

The cyclists made good time. With Greg, Wendy and Carmel staying back at the motel and Bob and I on the bus there was only 6 riders including the leader and sweep.

We had lunch first before entering the temple ruins.
First course, rice noodle soup with chicken,  vegetables and peanuts. It was delicious and filling and more than adequate. We didn't need the other courses.

Finally we headed in to see the ruins.

Tom explaining how the bricks were rubbed together to get a smooth surface and stacked on top without the use of mortar. We saw similar in Egypt with the sphinx complex.

Lots of spider webs 🕸

During the Vietnam war this area was bombed which is why these buildings are in ruins.

It's very hot and humid in the forest.

Mr Tom trying to convince me he can lift this cement block.

Lots of butterflies 🦋

Our ride back to the entrance.
A couple of photos from the bus trip back.

It was time for a quick dip in the pool and some cocktails before dinner.

Tonight's dinner was wonderful. It had a local Hoi An flavour, with rice paper wrapped pancakes and salad vegetables,  pork ribs and more.
Lots of Aussie things on display.

1,000,020 VND worth of fuel = 52.8L
I rode 20km today and Mark rode 38.
