Day 12. Hoi An. 10.11.24

Day 8 of the cycling tour,  60kms.

'Ride to My Lai, the site of one of the worst massacres of the War, and take a guided tour of the site and museum. Continue cycling into Vietnamese countryside and visit pagoda. Loop back through quiet, rural roads to the main highway. Transfer to Hoi An. The afternoon is free to explore Hoi An. Overnight in Hoi An.'

After a horrible night's sleep from the traffic noise and a very hard, cement like bed in a room that was well lit there was a pretty sunrise.

A couple of photos taken from the breakfast room.

We on the bikes just after 7.30am.
We stopped on top of the Co Luy bridge to take photos of the new pagoda and buddahs.

We rode up to the pagoda area.
The Co Luy bridge we just crossed from the car park. It took 3 years to build, cost over 2,500 billion  VND to build, is 1.8km long and spans the Tra Khuc River.
We visited the Chàu Minh Dúc Pagoda.

Lots of beautiful cement works happening.

Symbol of eternal life.

We rode down the road a little to see the happy Buddah.

Inside the Happy Buddah.
Back on the bikes to complete the first part of our ride.

We rode to My Lai, the scene of the worst massacres of the Vietnam war. We watched a very one sided film of the atrocities committed by the American soldiers. Then we wandered through the museum.

Back on the bikes again. No pictures taken on this ride through back roads and pebbly streets.
Water buffalo from the bus.
We have a lovely room for 2 nights. It feels very luxurious.

Mark and I went for a wander before dinner looking for lanterns.

Dinner was at a local restaurant.

Another short wander after dinner.

Mark spent the day on the bus but was starting to feel better by the afternoon.
